WARNING: Sentry In Lab, Bring Portal Gun
It looks like Zane has finished his Portal-inspired sentry gun and left it at the lab overnight, allowing it to evolve consciousness and determine, however correct or incorrect, that humans are the biggest threat to their own survival. I would suggest against going to the lab any time this weekend until we can get a cleaning crew out there. But if you happen to have a portal or gravity gun, you know, feel free to take care of it yourself.

GGHC Project Spec Submissions Due Noon Tomorrow
tl;dr — Element14 is hosting a “Great Global Hackerspace Challenge” and we are participating. We are deciding on a project on Thursday. Project specs are due by noon tomorrow if you have an idea and want want it in the vote. We had a meeting last Tuesday to narrow down our focus for the GGHC competition and got at least one solid idea out of it, and several other sparks of creativity in other directions. In the interest of fairness, we’re doing an official vote Thursday afternoon and accepting project […]
Hacking the MMORPP for fun and profit(?)
This ‘ironic’ Mark Beasely thought it’d be funny to make a game where no one does anything, there are no objectives, no interactive elements to play with, just cursors. Everyone has a cursor, and you have a cursor, and you see everyones’ cursor updated in real-time. He called it “MMORPP” which supposedly stands for ‘massively multiplayer online role playing peripheral’. At first I thought he was going for a ‘multiboxing’ joke, but now I have no idea what he means.

The group is up for anyone involved in home-use rapid prototyping projects, such as but not limited to: Makerbot, RepRap, Ultimaker, laser and ceramic sintering, vacuumforming and anything CNC. We communicate through a mailing list: https://familab.org/mailman/listinfo/coffeemug_familab.org We met today. Present was MakerBot #394, #421, and #736, along with a RepRap Mendel. Photos!
RepRap is Rapping
Well, after much work, finding out that the power supply we bought was very noisy, replacing it with another one, and then getting a ton of other stuff worked out, I have a mostly-working RepRap. First piece that came out wasn’t amazing, but it was a piece: I decided to work more on getting Skeinforge to work, as that’s the best program for actually making decent Gcode files. After a bunch of tinkering with settings and trying to get things set up properly, it finally started to show some decent […]
