Wooden Chest

The wood was from a single 8ft length of wood, 1x8 pressure treated pine. It’s designed based off a medieval six-board chest, so there’s only six parts to the structure. The joinery’s also pretty simple: those side walls have channels cut into them so that the front/back would sit flush with the lid, and there’s a dado joint that helps keep the floor connected to the walls. Everything’s fastened with basic carpentry nails (with a healthy amount of wood glue).

The hinges, the handles, and the hasp in the front were all painted a uniform bronze color. The chest was finished by torching the wood with a propane torch, followed by a layer of boiled linseed oil.

All in all, the entire project was less than $40 to make.
