FamiLAB Annual Meeting 2017
This year's annual meeting was held at the Lab on Sunday, March 27th. The meeting started about 3:30 PM, and was attended by about 50 members.
The current board was introduced, and we were reminded about FamiLAB's mission. Mike King presented a review of FamiLAB's history, starting in 2009 and going through 4 generations, culminating in the vibrant community we have today. Achievements of the most recent year included development of the machine shop and DIY Bio Lab, progress in welding and darkroom, a slew of new group activities including Multimedia Night and FPV Drone racing, and major events including Maker Faire Orlando, Burning Man, and our participation in the founding of Nation of Makers.
After a short intermission, Jamie Szafran talked us through the state of the Lab's finances (TL;DR - we're surviving), and Mike King spoke about our current challenges and opportunities for the coming year. Mike Bakula presented on recent policy decisions for the Lab, and then we elected two new members of the board of directors.
Dave Smith will be returning as a board member, and Daniel Chateau will be our newest director. Each has been elected to a three-year term. Following the elections, the meeting concluded and everyone enjoyed the always excellent catering from 4Rivers (thank you Lilly!) We are off to a good start to another year, and we are always looking for more makers to be part of our community!
